Tom's birthday

Tom's 54th birthday was in April and I'm just now getting around to posting photos:

Spring photos

Our yard is good-sized for the neighborhood. We are lucky to get a lot of birds, bunnies, and squirrels to visit. Tuesday was a sunny day and the pheasant pair were out.
While Mrs. Pheasant ate bugs (or whatever) out of the grass pile on the left, Mr. Pheasant kept a sharp lookout. She is hard to see!

Duffy enjoyed his time outside - not on the same time as the pheasants, though! It was warm and sunny with a light breeze. Perfect for a lot of sniffing.

School's out for summer - well, kind of...

My first year as a graduate student is complete! Two weeks of playtime are almost up. Starting next week, it's back to reading and studying to prepare for my research trip. The schedule will be a lot easier than the usual semester schedule, though.

I bought yarn to make some crocheted washcloths (see photo at left) and

yarn to make a faux pot of African violets for my mom. I haven't done a lot of crocheting in the round so the violet project will be great practice.

A thunderstorm is in today's forecast so it has been cool and overcast all day. I hope our warm summer weather comes back soon - I'm tired of being cold!

Busy, Busy

I've been busy, as usual, with school. I managed to take some time for myself and get a blouse cut out and sewn. I made some modifications to an existing pattern that I liked, but I'm still not quite happy with the pattern. The front is nice, but the back has the same amount of gathers as the front, so it billows out at my waistline. Not sure yet how to best fix it without changing the whole style of the shirt. Anyway, the blouse as-is works well for summer - loose and cool. I'll get photos posted asap.
